Introduction

Hey there, fellow business enthusiasts! My name is Kyle Kiider and I am a seasoned pro in the world of auditing, finance, and accounting. With 17 years of experience under my belt, I’ve spent the last few years working as the Director of Internal Audit for a cutting-edge AI enterprise in Northern Virginia.

As a business professional, I have much to offer in the way of insights gained through trial and error and the occasional stroke of luck. I will also share my thoughts on the latest industry trends and best practices.

I hope you enjoy reading my blog as much as I enjoy writing it. Thanks for joining me on this journey!

Life and Education

College was a game-changer for me. After graduating high school, I decided to pursue my passion for business by studying accounting at Frostburg State University. I was in my element as I dove into classes that allowed me to explore my love for solving puzzles, continuous professional growth, and optimizing business processes.

Surrounded by like-minded individuals who shared my passion for business, my college years were some of the best years of my life. The knowledge and connections I gained during this time have been invaluable in shaping who I am today.

But it wasn’t just the classes that set me up for success. I was also lucky enough to land an internship at Clifton Gunderson, LLP, while still in school. The experience gave me a taste of the real world, and when graduation rolled around, I was more than ready to take the leap. I landed a position at a national accounting firm in Maryland and began my professional journey as an auditor.

Career and work experience

Early

Starting my career as a staff auditor at a public accounting firm was a dream come true. I was able to learn the ins and outs of auditing financial statements and internal controls, gaining invaluable experience in the process. After receiving my CPA license and spending several years in public accounting, I felt ready for a new challenge.

Media Industry

That’s when I transitioned to a role in internal audit at a global media holding company. This new experience gave me a broader perspective on the risks and controls within a complex organization and the opportunity to work closely with the senior leadership team. I felt like my contributions were making a real impact, which was incredibly fulfilling.

But the best part? The company offered a 50% travel arrangement, so I was able to explore the United States and Europe, learning about different business cultures along the way. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I’ll never forget.

After a de-merger, I had the privilege of becoming a finance and accounting manager at a nationally known broadcasting network. I got to tour various broadcast stations, even trying my hand at delivering a weather forecast! It was an exciting experience that gave me a firsthand look at the energy that goes into making each newscast come together.

During my tenure, I amplified my accounting, analytical, and FP&A skills. I consolidated the financials of 46 television stations and regularly reported on revenue trends to the CFO and CEO. It was a challenging but rewarding experience. After three successful years, however, I felt it was time to explore new opportunities and see what else the business world had in store for me.

Risk Advisory Consulting

When an opportunity presented itself to join MorganFranklin Consulting as a senior manager in their risk advisory area, I jumped at the chance. With 10 years of experience under my belt, I was able to help clients make informed decisions about risk and compliance. The majority of my time was spent implementing and optimizing Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) programs, and I also had the opportunity to work on internal audits and manage projects.

During my four years at the firm, I had the chance to work with a diverse range of clients from various industries such as banking, healthcare, and manufacturing. This allowed me to gain vital knowledge and broaden my skillset even more.

Chief Audit Executive

When I was approached to become the Director of Internal Audit for BigBear.ai (BBAI), my goals were clear: to build an internal audit team from scratch, establish and execute SOX compliance processes, and develop an effective enterprise risk management (ERM) system that hadn’t existed before.

This is not an easy task.  However, at this point in my career, I’m proud of the knowledge I’ve gained from helping clients optimize their programs. Now I can construct BBAI’s programs correctly and avoid potential pitfalls.

A year later, the internal audit and SOX programs are designed and operating. Due to the continued efforts of the ERM oversight committee and working group, the ERM function continues to make amazing progress.

CIA & CISA Certifications

As the field of auditing and compliance continues to evolve, I want to make sure I stay ahead of the game. That’s why I’ve set a goal to obtain certifications like the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) in 2023.  This way, I can continue to grow and improve my skills in this ever-changing field.

UPDATE: I received my CISA in September 2023 and my CIA in November 2024.

Hobbies and Interests

When I’m not working, I have a variety of hobbies and activities that keep me entertained. One of my favorites is reading; it’s incredibly relaxing and allows me to explore new worlds without ever leaving home. Historical fiction and biographies are among my favorite genres; they provide an opportunity to gain knowledge of past times and insight into the people who made them happen.

One of the things I cherish most in my life is being a devoted husband and father. Having two children brings me immense joy; nothing beats spending quality time with them. My family takes every chance to travel together, whether it’s a weekend trip or a more extended trip. It’s become one of our favorite things to do. It gives me memories that will last a lifetime.Kiider Girls

Being a diehard fan of Liverpool FC has been integral to my life for many years. There is nothing quite like being surrounded by such passionate supporters, and I’m proud to be one myself! As impressive as it would be, I have yet to have the opportunity to experience Anfield in person; however, that doesn’t stop me from tuning in every weekend for all their matches on television.

I have become the person I am today through my hobbies and interests. Reading has given me a better understanding of our world. Family time has taught me the value of equilibrium and quality time with those you care about. Exploring new places allowed me to become more receptive and adjustable while cheering on Liverpool Football Club showed me how critical loyalty is, demonstrating what can be achieved when working together towards one mission!

Goals and Aspirations

As Chief Audit Executive, it is my job to keep making the internal audit function of our organization more valuable. My primary objectives are to verify that there are effective internal controls and to identify areas for improvement. I aspire to ensure that this function provides maximum benefit for our business endeavors.

I am committed to learning new things and improving my skills to stay up-to-date and good at what I do. To reach this goal, I plan to get more certifications, attend industry conferences, and connect with people in the same line of work. I also want to continue taking on more work responsibilities to help it grow and become more successful.

I want to keep improving at my job and become a leader in internal auditing. I’m also very interested in mentoring young professionals and making a difference in the organizations that have trusted me to protect their assets through auditing. Keeping this in mind will help me reach my goals and continue to make essential contributions to the field of internal audit.
